Hi Everyone! Welcome to the first post of our Paradox Point Quilt Along. Today we are going to discuss the basic info needed to make the quilt and choose fabric! Choosing fabrics is one of my favorite parts of quilting. I try to picture a pattern in as many different color combos as possible! This post is chalk full of information, so stick with it!

Paradox Point Quilt Along December 12 2016, 2 Comments

Hello Everyone! We are planning a Paradox Point Quilt Along for 2017. We had so much fun making the first few quilts, both Kristy and Juli wanted to make another! So, we are going to sew along with you =] We would love to have the quilts done this summer before we start working on our super secret Fall projects, so we are going to make a block every 2 weeks.

Deck Your Table with Holiday Placemats December 03 2016, 0 Comments

I collect Christmas fabric like a squirrel stashes nuts! With my new self-proclaimed "Must use the fabric on my shelves instead of sit and stare at it" attitude, I decided to cut into some of it! I made one, yes only one for now, Mel's Mats placemat. I love, love, love how it turned out and you can bet I will be making an entire set this week for my table.

8 Last Minute Handmade Christmas Gift Ideas December 01 2016, 0 Comments

Happy December! With only 25 days until Christmas, we decided to put together a list of projects you can definitely finish in time to give as gifts this year.

Holiday Arcadia Avenue Table Toppers November 27 2016, 2 Comments

We hope everyone had a fun (and food!) filled Thanksgiving celebration! Now, it is officially time to start decking the halls with holiday cheer and handmade decorations. We keep seeing individual Arcadia Avenue blocks pop up in Instagram for various mini quilt exchanges and we can't get enough.

Black Friday - Cyber Monday Sale! November 23 2016, 0 Comments

Christmas lights are being hung and Winter is quickly approaching, but we are taking a moment to enjoy the beauty around us and to thank everyone for your support of Sassafras Lane Designs. Without you, our wonderful customers, we would not have a reason to design our patterns!

Paradox Point Pyramid Pillow Tutorial November 21 2016, 0 Comments

Paradox Point pyramid pillows, try saying that ten times fast! We typically incorporate one of our latest patterns into a fun pillow of some sort for our Quilt Market booth. This Quilt Market we made prism shaped pillows using triangle blocks from our newest book, Paradox Point.

Paradox Point in Kaffe Fassett November 20 2016, 0 Comments

And last but not least, here is the show-stopping version Kristy made in Kaffe Fassett fabrics! One of our favorite things to do with patterns is see how they play with different styles. I think Paradox Point looks great in just about everything! We have 4 very different versions - one rainbow with solids, one featuring a fabric line, one cool colored batik quilt and this warm one with lots of large prints! Each has it's own flare and beauty.

Paradox Point in Tonga Jamboree November 19 2016, 0 Comments

Happy Saturday! We are kicking the weekend off with this batik beauty sewn by one of our good friends, Gitte Hopkins. This cool color scheme of this Paradox Point makes me swoon and these rich batiks - oh my! Gitte had a blast sewing this quilt and even made some special piped binding as a finishing touch!

Paradox Point in Desert Bloom November 18 2016, 0 Comments

The next version of Paradox Point we are sharing is this beauty made by Juli Kieny. It is a complete 180 from the cover quilt and I love that! Instead of creating a rainbow or gradating the fabrics in color order, Juli paired two contrasting fabrics from one fabric line for each arrow block. The contrasting blocks plus the dark background makes this quilt a total slam dunk!

Introducing Paradox Point! November 17 2016, 0 Comments

Okay, so most of you have already seen this quilt a few times, either on Instagram or in our Quilt Market recap post! But we thought we could have a few posts on Paradox Point this week to answer some questions about the pattern and share some details about each quilt. We have four different versions to share with you, and today we are kicking it all off with this gorgeous cover quilt!

Introducing Quadrant Court! November 15 2016, 1 Comment

Today I am introducing a new paper-pieced quilt pattern - Quadrant Court! This fun and fast pattern uses three fabrics to create a visually intriguing quilt. Each block contains three sewing lines, so this quilt flies together! The pattern includes full size foundations, three pattern sizes and complete paper-piecing instructions. This is a great pattern for paper-piecing beginners and experts alike!

Introducing the Teddy Tote! November 12 2016, 0 Comments

Some designs come from an artistic vision and some come about to fill a need! Say hello to the new perfect everyday tote bag - the Teddy Tote! We both live in bag-free areas, so every trip the grocery store, Target or clothing store requires us to bring our own bag. I wanted something a little cuter than a canvas bag, but something quick and fun to make - that is how we ended up with the Teddy Tote

Introducing Piccadilly Circle! November 10 2016, 0 Comments

Piccadilly Circle was one of our inaugural patterns three years ago. It is a fun skill-building pattern that we have republished with a shiny new cover and updated instructions. We are constantly wanting to remake older patterns in new styles and fabrics. I couldn't get the image of a Piccadilly Circle quilt made with rainbow circles and a scrappy low volume background out of my head - so I made it!

Quilt Market 2016 Recap - Part 2 November 08 2016, 0 Comments

If you didn't see part 1 of our Quilt Market Recap, check it out! We showed a little bit of our day-to-day activities and now we are going to do a booth tour! We get an empty 10' x 10' booth and transform it into this colorful quilty wonderland!

Quilt Market 2016 Recap - Part 1 November 07 2016, 1 Comment

We just got back from Quilt Market in Houston and before it all becomes a blur, I wanted to share a few snippets! This time I will take you through a day-to-day breakdown of Quilt Market through our eyes - and get a peek at our new patterns. We also wore matching shirts everyday that are a little sassy =] There is so much to share, part 1 will contain a day to day breakdown and part 2 will have a booth tour!

Hello, Ollie Fabrics Blog Tour November 03 2016, 2 Comments

Hello lovely blog hoppers! Welcome to our little corner of the internet! Today is our day on the Hello, Ollie Fabrics Blog Tour. I have always admired Bonnie Christine's designs and when she asked us to make something for her Spring Quilt Market booth back in May, I jumped at the opportunity!

Introducing Sammy's Safari! October 23 2016, 3 Comments

I am very excited to officially introduce the last of our Spring 2016 patterns! This is Sammy's Safari, the sequel to our popular baby quilt pattern Zoey’s ZooSammy's Safari is a fun, quick and customizable appliqué pattern for the newest baby in your life! With 4 different animals to choose from (alligator, elephant, giraffe and monkey) you can find a great personality or nursery match!

Introducing Kringle Crossing! October 20 2016, 0 Comments

It is no secret that diamonds are one of our favorite shapes to work with! If Diamond AlleyDiamond Detour and Mini Diamond Detour weren't proof enough, we have a new pattern featuring... you guessed it, diamonds! Kringle Crossing is a fun, fast tree skirt and table topper pattern in one.

Introducing Baker Street! October 19 2016, 0 Comments

Ahhhh! Quilt Market is coming soon and I have been a major slacker on the blog front. I can't very well introduce our new upcoming patterns without formally introducing the last bunch, so... up next on the intro train is Baker Street!

Elisabeth & Mason's Wedding Quilt September 28 2016, 1 Comment

I have always made a promise to close friends, that will get a quilt when they get married. I have officially hit that age where my friends are beginning to settle down, so the quilt making has begun! The first of my close friends to tie-the-knot was Elisabeth. When she asked me to be a bridesmaid, I concocted a plan to make a guest book quilt.

Introducing Privet Drive! August 28 2016, 1 Comment

Happy Monday! Today I am writing to you from a little coffee shop in Midtown Manhattan! I am on a trip with my best friend and we are having a blast, and getting some work done. This week, we are going to continue introducing our new(ish) patterns and next up on the docket is our Privet Drive!

Prism Parkway in Saturday Morning August 22 2016, 0 Comments

It is always fun to see digital quilt mockup come to life! This is the Prism Parkway I mocked up for Moda in Basic Grey's latest line, Saturday Morning! It is a fun line with text, florals, triangles and people toting about! I arranged the fabrics gradating in color order from red to black to blue to green to gold, diagonally down the quilt on a light grunge background.

Introducing Hootsville Row! August 20 2016, 0 Comments

Hootsville Row originated as a 12" block I designed a few years ago for one of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazines. Hootie, as I called him, was one single owl perched on a branch with a golden full moon behind him. I decided to design a quilt around Hootie and create a whole family of owls. I love how Hootsville Row turned out!

Mel's Mats in Hazelwood August 18 2016, 0 Comments

The last post featured Mel's Mats made with scraps. Today I am going to share some placemats made with a precut strip pack by one of our favorite sewists, Juli Kieny! We paired a jelly roll of an adorable fabric line from One Canoe Two (one of my favorite designers!) with two woven solids for the background. Juli made up 4 placemats and we love how they turned out!

Introducing Mel's Mats! August 17 2016, 0 Comments

We have been making these woven placemats for years as housewarming gifts, children's room decorations and table toppers! We finally turned these into Mel's Mats, a precut or scrap friendly placemat and table runner pattern. These placemats aren't only functional, but will brighten your table!

Canyon Boulevard in Ink & Arrow Fabrics August 15 2016, 3 Comments

Occasionally fabulous fabric companies ask us to make a project featuring their new fabric lines. I love looking at fabric, then sorting through our patterns to find the perfect pairing! Ink & Arrow Fabrics sent us a box full of goodies. We sorted through it and picked out 8 fun prints on white backgrounds and a seafoam dot blender to make our Canyon Boulevard quilt pattern.

Quilt-It Modern Blog Tour July 01 2016, 4 Comments

Today is our stop along the Riley Blake Quilt-it Modern blog tour

This tour is all about showing off these fun solids and giving you loads of ideas on how to play with them! We originally were just going to make an Empire Place pillow, but couldn't help ourselves and made 2 mini quilts too!

Sassy & Solid - Part 3 June 22 2016, 0 Comments

Today is the last of the pretty solid quilts made by our talented friend Juli! But don't worry, there will be more in the future. I can promise you that! We are working our way through these quilts based on the background color. We started Monday with our lightest backgrounds and will be finishing off today with our darkest!

Sassy & Solid - Part 2 June 21 2016, 2 Comments

Happy Tuesday! Making it past Monday always seems to put me in a good mood! Today we are going to share 2 more large quilts and 2 more minis. Let's dive right in!

Sassy & Solid - Part 1 June 20 2016, 0 Comments

We had a fun opportunity to pair American Made Brand solids with our patterns for a presentation at Quilt Market in Salt Lake City. Our talented friend Juli Kieny made a whole slew of quilts for us and I can't wait to share some photos of these amazing quilts!

Spring 2016 Quilt Market in Salt Lake City June 01 2016, 0 Comments

Our long holiday weekend is over and we are finally starting to feel recovered from Quilt Market. We had a lot going on this year and we can’t wait to share some photos with you.

New Spring Patterns! May 25 2016, 0 Comments

Our long holiday weekend is over and we are finally starting to feel recovered from Quilt Market. We had a lot going on this year and we can’t wait to share some photos with you.

Free Patchwork Pineapple Mini Quilt Pattern April 04 2016, 6 Comments

Over a year ago, we made a mini pineapple quilt based on a pillow we saw on Instagram and shared the pattern with Dear Stella Fabrics. We reduced the size of the pieces and made a mini quilt that finishes 8-1/2" x 11-1/2". Here is a step-by-step tutorial to make one of your very own!

One Way in Alison Glass Fabrics March 11 2016, 0 Comments

We love scrappy quilts! And our new favorite thing is scrappy backgrounds! We have always loved Alison Glass's fabrics and got incredibly excited when she came out with Abacus, a set of low volume prints. We used all the black and white fabrics as the background and assorted bright Sunprints and Handcrafted fabrics for the arrows!

One Way in Black & Whites March 09 2016, 2 Comments

We made a couple different versions of our One Way quilt. I dug into my stash of black and white prints to make this quilt and added a pop with one solid wasabi arrow! Everything about this quilt from the quilting to the binding makes me smile!

Introducing One Way! March 07 2016, 1 Comment

One Way is one of our newer patterns that we released at Fall Quilt Market in Houston. (Yes, I am just getting around to blogging about it! Sorry!) This modern arrow design was inspired by a wall mural in Japan. We loved the simplicity of the design and immediately wanted to make it into a quilt!

Graffiti Walls in EaDo Houston February 10 2016, 4 Comments

One night during Quilt Market, we stumbled upon a beautiful graffiti wall being touched up while walking back from dinner. We decided we would swing by on our way out of town and snap some photos of our mini quilts in front of the wall.

Hannah's Firelights Lane Quilt February 08 2016, 2 Comments

We love seeing all of our customer quilts and every once in awhile, we strike up a dialogue with a quilt-maker via email. Pat Anderson of Littleton, Colorado sent us a photo of the Firelights Lane quilt top she made for her granddaughter Hannah. It is beautiful in it's own right, but the story behind it and pieces of military uniforms in the quilt make it something incredibly special.

Mini Quilts in Dear Stella Fabrics February 05 2016, 0 Comments

For Quilt Market in Houston, we teamed up with Dear Stella to introduce our new mini quilt patterns in a Schoolhouse presentation. We made each of the six new patterns in some of the newest lines. Dear Stella fabrics are amazing to work with! Their lines are typically feminine and full of unique and striking color combinations.

Introducing Mini Piccadilly Circle February 03 2016, 0 Comments

When Kristy and I decided Piccadilly Circle was the sixth pattern we would turn into a mini quilt, I couldn't repress my urge to make a color wheel! I have loved rainbows from a very early age, and incorporate them into our projects as much as Kristy will let me =] We dug into our scrap bins and found 40 gradating fabrics to make this rainbow-tastic Mini Piccadilly Circle

Introducing Mini Euclid Avenue February 02 2016, 0 Comments

Euclid Avenue is one of our patterns that was influenced by some tile we spotted in an old hotel in Boston and one we really wanted to make into a mini quilt when we launched a line of mini quilt patterns. It is a fun design to play with scale, color and contrasts. We decided to make this Mini Euclid Avenue version in the same colors as the original, but without prints, since the pieces are pretty small!

Introducing Mini Prism Parkway February 01 2016, 0 Comments

Prism Parkway combines all my favorite things: quilting, geometry and architecture. When we were making a list of patterns to make into mini quilts first, I immediately thought, "How cute would a Mini Prism Parkway quilt be?" I wanted to make a mini version of the scrappy orange original, so we dug through the orange scrap bin and made this little guy!

Introducing Mini Lantern Lane January 31 2016, 0 Comments

Lantern Lane is one of our Fall Market pattern releases and we couldn't resist turning it into a mini quilt pattern too! It is a fun and easy-to-construct pattern that looks interesting and complex. We chose 9 different lime, green and aqua prints for the lanterns and placed them on a light teal hatching background to make this Mini Lantern Lane quilt.

Introducing Mini Lombard Street January 30 2016, 0 Comments

The original Lombard Street cover quilt is still to this day one of my all-time favorite quilts. So, when it came time to making a Mini Lombard Street, I wanted the quilt to have the same feel, but making an entire rainbow gradient on a mini seemed too busy. Kristy and I debated on gradating half the rainbow, and ended up choosing to do the warm side!

Introducing Mini Churndash Court January 29 2016, 0 Comments

Mini Churndash Court pattern has been a long time coming. I made a mini version of our original Churndash Court years ago during my two-week churndash obsession state. I had just been introduced to the idea of mini quilts and couldn't get the idea of a mini churndash out of my head! So, I created this rainbow version with a white churndash.

Mini and Sassy January 28 2016, 0 Comments

We have finally jumped on the train heading for Mini Quilt-ville. I have always loved mini quilts and have had a gallery wall in every place I've lived, but I dragged my feet on patterning some Sass minis. Why? I am not completely sure, but I knew if I did them, I wanted to make them special. We launched 6 mini patterns at Fall Market.
