Free Clear Trick-or-Treat Bag Tutorial!

Happy Fall Y’all! Our new Clear TPU Vinyl is flying off the shelves and we couldn’t help but making another fun project out of it. We have a new trick-or-treater this year and wanted to make her a cute little bag with our clear vinyl to tote from house to house! This cute little tote finishes 6in wide, 5in deep and 8in tall - perfect for those little kids or your work lunch! Now, let’s get to a free tutorial.

Materials Needed

Cutting Instructions

From the Clear TPU Fabric, cut:

  • Two 10½” x 10½” squares

From the Handle Fabric, cut:

  • Two 12” x 1½” rectangles for the handles (If using cotton fabric, cut two 12” x 2” rectangles.)
  • One 20½” x 2¾” strip for the top band

Sewing Instructions

If using cork, faux leather or jelly vinyl: Fold handle strip into thirds lengthwise. Clip and/or tape in place. Stitch along each side catching the raw edge. Repeat for 2nd handle. (If using cotton fabric: Fold each 12” x 2” strip in half lengthwise, iron. Open and fold each side into center, iron. Fold in half, iron, so it measures 1” wide.)

Trick-or-Treat Bag Tutorial

Find top center of bag pieces and measure 2” in each direction. Baste your handles centering them on the mark.

Trick-or-Treat Bag Tutorial

Place bag fabrics right sides together clipping along sides and bottom. Mark a 2½” square in each of the bottom corners. Cut out squares. Sew side seams and bottom seam, backstitch at start and end.

Trick-or-Treat Bag Tutorial

Pull squares together to form boxed bottom, nestling bottom and side seams to reduce bulk. (Looking for a visual aid? Check out this photo tutorial!)

Sew the band together at short ends and open the seam. Fold the band wrong sides together and clip to the wrong side of bag top matching the raw edges. Sew together using a ⅜” seam, backstitching when sewing over the handles. For now, keep handles facing down towards the bottom of the bag. Turn the folded edge of the band to the outside of the bag, encasing the raw edges at the top. Clip into place and edge stitch along folded edge. Pull up the handles and stitch along edge stitching to keep handles facing upwards.

Fill with candy and enjoy!
