Introducing Make Cool Sh!t

Last summer we launched a new mini quilt pattern that took the quilting world by storm… or got us one angry email and a few unfollows. But despite a few disgruntled feathers, we and many others loved our new mini! So here it is, in all it’s glory! Say hello to Make Cool Sh!t.

The DETAILS

Choosing fabrics for this mini was a fun adventure through my scrap bins! I chose two dark charcoal fabrics for the subtly pieced background and bright scraps for the words “Make Cool Shit.” We selected 4 orange fabrics for the word MAKE, 4 lime fabrics for the word COOL and 4 pink fabrics for the word SHIT.

To add a little pizazz, we rounded the corners and finished this mini quilt off with a colorful striped binding. Te rounded corners are completely optional, but we think gives it a little something extra! There is a corner template included in the pattern and we recommend making bias binding for finishing your Make Cool Shit mini quilt if you also choose the round edge route!

The PATTERN

This would be the perfect decoration for your sewing space! Or make the perfect gift for your favorite artist! I appliquéd this to the back of a denim jacket and wear it to quilt shows, always gets a giggle or two!

  • Pattern: Make Cool Sh!t
  • Fabric: Orange, Lime and Pink Scraps on a dark charcoal checkerboard background
  • Quilting: We simply used the appliqué to quilt through all the layers
  • Finished Size: 12in x 15in
  • Techniques: Fusible Appliqué

The JACKET

I whipped up this jacket to wear to h+h americas last year and got lots of compliments walking around and few people asking to take a photo. We love adding a little spice to the sweet quilting world with a swear word or two! Appliquéing this pattern to the back of a denim jacket was easy peasy - we didn't do anything different except instead of fusing the letters to a background, we fused and sewed them down to the jacket.

The EXTRAS

This Make Cool Shit design started out as sticker, made it’s way into enamel pin form, all before I decided to make it into a quilting pattern. And now, because it has been so popular, there is a glittery sticker version! The Make Cool Sh!T pattern is available in PDF and paper form.
