Shine + Structure: Colorful Faux Leathers & Metallic Magic✨
I’ve got something glamorous and gutsy to share today — perfect for those of us who love shine, structure, and projects that POP. Our Faux Leather selection has grown and is more tempting by the minute. We have a number of irresistible shades and some spectacular shiny options to boot!
What’s the Skinny?
These materials are soft yet sturdy – thick enough to hold shape, but flexible enough to sew easily. They bring a more elevated look to your backpacks, handbags, wallets and decor - or a touch of whimsy with a metallic gleam if you so choose. All our Faux Leathers come in precut rolls of 18in x 53in — plenty for bags, accents, and more.
Why People are Loving These
Because they do so much:
- Professional meets everyday: Faux leather makes pouches or wallets feel professional. Add a flash of copper, teal, or mermaid green Metallic faux leather to elevate any simple everyday item!
- Function + flair: These materials clean up nicely, have structure for bags or trays, and still let you experiment with color and shine without going overboard.
- Pairing power: Our extensive collection of faux leather options pair beautifully with quilting cottons, jelly vinyls and cork.
Project Inspiration: How to Use It
Here are some fun project ideas I’m itching to try (and you might too):
- Statement Tote — Try our Natasha Tote with a full metallic body, maybe teal, with a matte outside pocket. Add a tassel for a pop.
- Accent Wallet — Pair your Faux Leather with a coordinating color of cork or jelly vinyl to make a beautifully balanced Quick Snappy Wallet.
- Bold Backpack — Mix together some bold colors of faux leather with a coordinating canvas to make the perfect back-to-school Boulder Backpack.
- Everyday Fanny Pack — Make a Bum Bag out of your favorite metallic faux leather —something you use daily elevated with some fun shimmer.
Tips & Tricks for Sewing with Faux Leather
- Use a 80/12 Microtex sharp or denim needle and a longer stitch length (~3.0-3.5 mm).
- A Teflon foot helps slide over without sticking.
- Clip, don’t pin. Pins can leave permanent holes.
- Use tissue paper under the foot if the fabric is dragging.
- Iron very carefully, always on the wrong side, low heat, no steam. A pressing cloth helps.
- Spot clean only — metallic finishes sometimes can dull if treated too roughly.
I can’t wait to see what you make with these gorgeous options. Tag them with #sassafraslane on Instagram so I get to admire your creations and cheer you on - we love seeing your projects!
