Jelly Vinyl and Clear Vinyl and small project pouches - Oh my! It seems a little redundant to blog about all of this now, since they have been out and some of best sellers for the past year, but here we go anyways - plus it can’t hurt to have all this information together!
Jelly & Clear TPU Vinyl—Your New Besties
First up, let’s revisit the ‘90s with our Jelly Vinyl—this translucent, matte-finish vinyl is a dream to sew. It’s soft yet sturdy, doesn’t stick to your presser foot, and adds that whisper of whimsy to any project. Pouches, bags, appliqués… oh my! And it’s cut into 18in x 53in rolls, so you’ve got plenty to play with. We carry yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, lavender, blue, teal, green, lime and most recently, black!
Then there’s our custom designed Clear TPU Vinyl—this transparent superstar is flying off the shelves, and we can’t stop designing new styles. It’s perfect for any projects where you want your fabrics or insides to show through. Our Clear TPU vinyl comes in 12in x 53in rolls. Our selection of clear designs is always evolving, but we do have some evergreen styles like our Rainbow Plaid. Our rule of thumb is - we will keep ordering a style as long as it keeps selling!
The Nitty Gritty Details
- Thickness: 0.5mm
- Recommended Needle: A 90/14 Microtex or non-stick needle are recommended, with a longer stitch length, 3.0mm to 3.5mm.
- Recommended Thread: Polyester thread, we love a 50 or 40 weight.
- Recommended Foot: A Teflon foot is helpful when sewing with this material, especially if you plan to make more than one project!
- Recommended Notions: Sewing clips, because pins will leave holes and buckle the vinyl. Having tissue paper near by is helpful when the vinyl begins to stick to the bed of your machine.
- Ironing: Do not directly iron your vinyl. You may heat up the jelly and clear vinyls with a blow dryer to make it more malleable.
- How to Clean: This fabric can be spot washed with a damp washcloth.
