Adding Prints to the Diamond Detour

The cover quilt of the Diamond Detour is all about solids, so today we are going to focus on adding prints to the quilt. The Diamond Detour is a great way to show off your favorite prints. We have two examples today that are completely different! One features different prints in the pieced diamonds and the other features one busy print as the background.

Diamond Detour featuring prints

The first quilt features assorted black and white prints in the pieced diamonds. We chose a solid golden yellow background so both the dark prints and light prints contrasted with the background. Featuring prints this way allows you to feature multiple prints, but does make the quilt prominently the background color.

The second quilt features assorted tone-on-tone pieced diamonds with a busy rocket print as the background. For this quilt, we pulled the background first and then choose coordinating fabrics for the diamonds. This is a great way to feature your favorite prints without cutting them up as much. It gives the pattern an entirely different look!

I love both quilts! The Rock quilt makes me think of that little shape as the look-out window for the astronaut. I can’t wait to see this pattern in my favorites…batiks! ~Shari
