News from the Orange Studio

It is that time again! Designing fabric has many fun aspects and steps, but my favorite by far is seeing what others create with it. As I develop a fabric line, I picture how it will look in our Sass patterns, current and on the horizon. And these are fun, don’t get me wrong. But, I absolutely adore watching others make with the fabrics because everyone sees the potential of the prints and colors differently.

If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you saw our daily introductions to the characters of Zootropolis throughout May. Zootropolis is our newest self-published book and is something a little different for us. I have always had an idea of a high rise building full of animals floating around in my mind and we finally figured out how to bring it to life. All the animals are fusible appliqué and can be set in the entire quilt or a fun pillow! We hope you experiment and play with these characters!

We are super excited and honored to be a part of the 2019 Aurifil Designer Block of the Month team! Each year Aurifil invites 12 designers to create a quilt block that is part of a theme and April is our month! Pat Sloan coordinates the program, puts all the blocks together at the end for a creative finished quilt and makes a different of each block as they are posted. 

Buying stuff online is hard! And photographing vinyl and cork is a little tricky! They change depending on the lighting. We do our best to get the most accurate colors in the store and to help, we put together these color stories of all the cork and vinyl we carry so you can compare and pair colors together for projects, like our Natasha Tote! For the cover tote, we combined Tropical Pebbled Vinyl and Teal Textured Vinyl!

Vinyl, or as we prefer, Vegan Leather, is finally here!

We sourced out the highest quality product and our favorite to sew with. These products are used in professional applications and are very durable! Durability and gorgeous colors - what more could you want for a bag fabric?

We have clean out our studio and to make room for our next sewing adventures, we are auctioning off some of our beloved samples and donating half the proceeds to our local animal shelter, Homeward Pet Adoption Center.

Wow, 2018 was quite the year and it flew by. It seems like just a few days ago I was reflecting upon 2017 with excitement for the new year. We did a lot this year (some of which we still can’t share with you because it is queued up for this year!!) and it is always a good idea to reflect back on all you accomplished and created. With that in mind here are some noteworthy moments and projects from 2018.

I whipped these fun little guys up for my Foundation booth last October and they were a hit. I don’t remember where I originally saw these, but I grew up with these all around our house. And because, I find that one can never have enough coasters, people requested a quick tutorial and they make great hostess gifts for holiday parties, here we go! All you need is five 5” charm-squares to get started.

We are getting a little dazed and amoosed by all of these different Wild Moose Chase projects. Sadly, today is the last day. I am sure we will have a lot more of these down the road because these little guys are way too much fun to make! Just picture it with me, a Christmas Moose!
