Introducing Mulholland Drive!

Say hello to the newest pattern of the Sassafras Lane bunch, Mulholland Drive! This is a fun, fast, fat-quarter friendly quilt that contains diamonds, triangles and a little bit of paper-piecing. This quilt has a modern and slightly aztec feel to it and flies together. The Mulholland Drive quilt pattern contains three sizes: Venti (72" x 88"), Grande (52" x 70") and Tall (41" x 53").

The Mulholland Drive quilt uses fat-quarters and one background fabric. For the cover quilt, we used a large assortment of fabrics from Art Gallery Fabrics. We used various pink, coral, red and orange prints from lots of lines, such as: Minimalista, Tule, Reminisce, Indian Summer, Carnaby St., Luxe in Bloom, Rock 'n Romance, Rhapsodia, Summerlove, Modernology, Chromatics, Sweet as Honey, Rapture, Safari Moon, Oval Elements and Squared Elements. I used the Spiceberry solid from their Pure Elements for the background. I love every single print in this quilt!

Choosing fabrics for this quilt is super fun! The only advice I have is to make sure all your fat-quarters don't blend into your background.

My Mom, the amazing quilter behind Wolf Creek Quilting, quilted vertical serpentine lines in the diamonds and horizontal serpentine lines in the triangle prints.

 Quilt Stats:

    • Made by: Shayla Wolf (moi)
    • Quilted by: Kristy Wolf
    • Fabric: assorted Art Gallery fabrics
    • Finished Size: 52" x 70" - a good lap size!
    • Techniques: paper-piecing and triangle piecing
    • My Favorite Part: the faceted Diamonds created between the triangles

In the pattern, we suggest using the background as the binding, but when we saw the quilt all quilted up, we couldn't resist doing something a little fancier! We made a scrappy faux piped binding. We used the extras from the fat-quarters as the outside and background as the 'piping'. I think it adds a little je ne sais quoi!

I loved shooting this Mulholland Drive cover quilt. No matter where I draped it or hung it, it looked nice. I love the brick background and the wood fence below. They are two of favorite spots to shoot.

I ended up using the photo above for the cover of the Mulholland Drive pattern. I love how it turned out! What do you think?

Big thank you to Art Gallery Fabrics for providing such beautiful fabrics for this quilt!

I just received my March Batik club package with the Mulholland Drive spotlight pattern, but when I go to the address on the free pattern, I keep going to a construction site. I would like the pattern, but it is supposed to be free. Please help. Thank you.
