Zootropolis Project Inspiration!
As we play around with the idea of making a second Zootropolis book, we thought it would be a good time to share some other projects we’ve made with cute critters!
If you are not familiar with our Zootropolis book, check it out! The book contains 32 adorable appliqué animals, an entire quilt pattern and pillow pattern.
But after we created these little guys, we couldn’t resist adding them into more projects. They brighten up everything - bags, jackets, quilts, pillows and more! See the little collage below of our past projects!
Planning to make some Zootropolis critters? Here are some things that will make your appliqué journey easier!
- Zootropolis book
- Appliqué Pressing Sheet
- Brightly Colored Prewound Bobbins (I used them on the top so I don’t have to buy large spools in lots of colors for small projects!)
- Fusible Web
We appliquéd animals to the back of denim jackets when we first published the book to wear to Quilt Market and still wear them to shows. My little sister is a kindergarten teacher and decided she would also love to rock a cute jacket. So, we grabbed a denim jacket from Costco and let her choose an animal from Zootropolis. She picked the polar bear and Kristy appliquéd it into a diamond on the back. It turned out super cute!
Next up is Parker’s Parker Pack! (say that 10 times quickly!) You may have guessed, but yes, Parker is the namesake of our Parker Pack. For her last birthday, Kristy made her a Parker Pack out of our natural cork and appliquéd the Toucan on it! The colorful bird called for some colorful hardware - Kristy made the straps out of turquoise cork, used a nickel hardware kit, a pink zipper and with iridescent rainbow zipper pulls!
My good friends had a baby and like all handmade gifts I give, I was very late getting this little dude his quilt. I used the pillow pattern from our Zootropolis book, pulled orange, green and blue fabrics and made 12 blocks. I love adding names to baby/kids quilts because I think they get a kick out of seeing their name, so I added a row across featuring his name. Kristy quilted this one with straight lines and the minky backing is destined to be a hit on those cold Colorado nights. I love how this one turned out and might make another some day!
That is all for now! Stay tuned for a post coming soon featuring our family stockings I made using a few of our mini patterns!

I Love Love the Zootropolis book. I just bought it today at a local quilt shop. I also love all the pillows! What fabric line do you use & I especially like the fabrics you used for the pillow borders around the 8-1/2” block. Just wondering if they are all from one fabric line or a mixture of different fabrics. Thanks!
