The SUMMER LOVIN' Projects!
Now that the days officially getting longer and we are getting a little glimpse of the Summer season coming up, it is time to share some of the projects we made with Summer Lovin’. By now the line has officially shipped out to stores and you have seen all the gorgeous projects our talented quilty friends have made, so I think it is our time!
This one of my favorite parts about designing a fabric line. All the “work” is done and we finally get to chop it up into pieces and make things out of it! I always have visions of how the fabric is going to look in projects and rarely am I correct. But, that adds to the fun!
Like all of my fabrics, we put together a look book for the occasion and tried to make as many projects as possible to fill it. Take a a peek at the look book below.
SHIVAUN PLACE
Shivaun Place was one of our original 6 patterns we launched Sassafras Lane Designs with 12 years ago. It has continued to be one of my favorites to mock up for different fabric lines because of its versatility. We needed to refresh this “oldie but goodie,” so we made it in Summer Lovin’ and I adore how it turned out. We put mockups with dark and light backgrounds on Instagram and asked for you all to vote. Both were loved, but the dark background took the cake. We have kits with both backgrounds available here.
HETTY HOLDALL
The Hetty HoldAll bag is the perfect bag when you really want to show a fabric off! The sides pieces are large and unimpeded, so your fabric can shine. We wanted to make a bag out of the Daisy Canvas fabric from Summer Lovin’ and thought this bag would be the perfect project. We paired the canvas fabric with the Bright Yellow Vinyl, Black Cork, our Black & White Striped Zipper, Nickel Zipper Pulls, Foam Interfacing and a Hetty HoldAll Hardware Kit. Black and white with a pop of color classic combination that won’t ever go out of style!
LEXINGTON LANE
The Lexington Lane quilt is one my favorite quilts to sew up. It might be because it is a pretty quick fat-quarter friendly quilt, or it might be the modern hexagons with no y-seams! Maybe it is a combination of it all! We pulled 14 fabrics from the Summer Lovin’ fabric line for the focus fabrics and paired them with the darkest blue. Kristy’s spiral quilting in each hexagon “block” really lets your eyes dance across this quilt! We loved this one so much, we decided to kit it up, so grab one today to make one just like this.
JOJO ON-THE-GO
We have been tossing around models and sketches of bags of duffle bag ideas for years and finally last year we got around to publishing the JoJo On-the-Go! It is such a fun bag with so many fun features and of course we knew we needed to make one out of the new Summer Lovin’ Cruisin’ Canvas fabric. It is such a perfect fabric for a large bag like this - you really get to see the print! To make the bag, we used our Black Zipper Tape with Iridescent Teeth, Iridescent Zipper Pulls, Black Cork, Iridescent Rivets, Foam Interfacing and a JoJo On-the-Go Hardware Kit.
DAZY DAISY DRIVE
This fun appliqué daisy quilt pattern was one of a few patterns we launched specifically to accompany our Summer Lovin’ fabric line. Dazy Daisy Drive echos the daisies found in the fabric line and is such a fun, happy quilt! We used almost every single fabric in the line to make this quilt and it is so much fun! This pattern also includes a table runner and placemat option, which make the sweetest Spring/Summer home decor!
SWEETPEA SLING
Our SweetPea Sling is one our newest bags and quickly becoming one of the most popular! This sling style bag is such a versatile everyday bag and we have already made a handful. One of the many versions we made was one featuring our new Summer Lovin’ Daisy Canvas fabric. We paired this black, white and yellow daisy fabric with a Black Cork, yellow zipper, Nickel Zipper Pulls, Nickel Rivets, Foam Interfacing and a SweetPea Sling Hardware Kit. We made another SweetPea Sling out of the Cruisin’ Canvas and we will share some photos soon!
RETRO VANS
We took our Retro Van appliqué pattern and made three mini quilts using the Summer Lovin’ fabrics. It was so much fun to make these appliqués with the bright retro inspired fabrics! We mixed pieces of bright vinyls in with the fabrics for the van’s fenders and back windows levers which adds a fun extra texture to the pieces.
CITRUS CIRCLE
Now this quilt isn’t made with 100% Summer Lovin’ fabric, but it features quite a bit, so we decided to include it! Our Citrus Circle quilt pattern is a foundation paper-pieced pattern and is a little nod the citrus fabrics in the line. We used assorted low volumes for the background of this quilt which gives it a nice scrappy texture while still allowing the fruit blocks to shine. The most challenging part of this quilt was finding fabric light enough for the pith portions of the fruits without having them blend into the background!
Summer Lovin’ is in shops now, so check out your local store. Can’t find it there? No worries, grab some from us!
Thanks for reading, or at least for scrolling through the pretty photos 😉
