Introducing Tulip Terrace Quilt & Table Runner Pattern — Time to Bloom 🌷
Now this design might look familiar to you, cough Clear Tulip Vinyl cough. But strangely enough, that’s not the place I debuted this print! This tulip motif was one I drew as a part of my upcoming batik line with Anthology, Dutch Days — more on that on in the near future. The more I saw this design in material form, the more I knew I’d eventually turn it into a quilt. Well, that day came and we LOVE how it turned out! Time to officially introduce Tulip Terrace — our new quilt & table runner pattern that’s perfect for bringing a bit of the garden indoors, no green thumb required!
Fresh, Floral & Fabulous
Tulip Terrace features Dutch-inspired tulip appliqué blocks that feel like those charming garden strolls—only no bellies required. The appliqués are fusible, which means they are fast, fun and customizable. Whether you love bold, modern prints or soft, traditional charm, this design is made to for you.
Included in the pattern are 6 different tulip appliqué designs, reversed and ready for tracing, full fusible appliqué instructions, 2 quilt sizes (wall/crib and throw) and a fun table runner and placemat option. I am making a table runner right now and it will be perfect for hosting Spring brunches and seasonal decor.
Why You Will Love Tulip Terrace
- Because flowers inside too—they belong on your quilts, table runners, and maybe even your breakfast nook.
- Because appliqué gives such a lovely dimensional & personal touch. And don’t get me started on the potential color combination options!
- Because the smaller table runner / placemat set means you can whip something up quick without committing to a full quilt. Instant (almost) gratification!
- Because this pattern is so versatile: work with prints, solids, tone-on-tones, mix them up or keep things calm—the choice is all yours.
The Cover Quilt
Gracing the cover of our Tulip Terrace pattern is colorful crib-size quilt featuring tulips in reds, oranges, aqua, navy and light pink, stems in bright lime greens, all set on a scrappy low volume background. This quilt it fat-quarter friendly, but with relatively small pieces, it would be such a fun one to make by digging through your scrap bins.
To finish this quilt, Kristy quilted swirls around the tulips filling the background. We then bound the quilt in the most perfect red and pink stripe. It’s is *chef’s kiss*!
Jazz Up Your Outfit With Appliqué
As you might know, we love to add appliqués to our denim jackets and for h+h americas this year, we chose to use the Tulip Terrace pattern. Kristy made a rainbow wreath of tulips on the back of her cheddar colored denim jacket. It turned out super cute! I added colorful tulips around the bottom of a boxy denim dress. It was fun to wear and added a needed pop of color to my outfit!
Rainbow + Night Gardening
I recently got the opportunity to play with an upcoming basic by Tara Faughnan for Windham Fabrics called Handloom. I mocked up our Tulip Terrace quilt with this line and mixed it up a bit! I used a dark background and made a rainbow of tulips. I love the contrast of the flowers on the dark background and am fond of how these woven fabrics let the design shine.
Appliqué Tips to Make It Smooth & Fun
- Using a good fusible web can make or break your project. We love TransWeb because it is a web style instead of a glue product meaning you can heat it over and over without it dissipating.
- Pressing sheets are your friend—use a pressing sheet to avoid sticky messes and build your tulips before fusing them to a background.
- Use a sharp needle and be sure to swap it out for your next project. The fusible can gum them up a bit.
- To avoid the edges pulling up during stitching, press throughly—and use a stabilizer to keep things stiff while sewing.
