Free Patchwork Strawberry Mini Quilt Pattern
I have been seeing strawberries EVERYWHERE! Growing wild on bushes in my neighborhood, on plates, side tables, mugs and phones in TJMaxx, AND on a bunch of new fabric lines coming out! I also happened to realize we haven't added to Mini Patchwork Fruit Collection in quite awhile. So, I decided to make a little Patchwork Strawberry and I think it turned out pretty cute!
Materials Needed
- assorted pink scraps
- assorted green scrap
- 1/8 yard of solid white
- 1/8 yard of pink print for binding
- 2-1/4" wide black & white scrap (optional for binding)
- 11” x 13” scrap for backing
Cutting Instructions
From the assorted pink scraps, cut:
- ten 1-1/2” squares
- four 1-7/8” squares
- one 2-1/4” x WOF strip for binding
From the assorted green scraps, cut:
- two 1-7/8” squares
- one 3/4” x 1-1/2" rectangle
From the white background, cut:
- four 1-7/8” squares
- one 1-1/2" x 2-1/4" rectangle
- two 1-1/2" squares
- one 3/4" x 2-1/2" rectangle
- two 2-1/2” x 6-1/2” rectangles
- two 2-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangles
Sewing Instructions
To make the half-square triangles: 1. Layer a 1-7/8” white square and pink square right sides together. 2. Draw a line down the center. 3. Using a 1/4” seam, sew on both sides of the square. 4. Cut along the drawn line. 5. Press the seams open.
Make 6 total white/pink half square triangles, 2 total white/green half-square triangles and 2 total pink/green half-square triangles.
Sew two white/pink half square triangles together. Press the seam open. Trim 1/4" off the bottom. Sew the 3/4" x 2-1/2" white rectangle along the bottom and iron it open to make the strawberry bottom.
Sew the squares, rectangles and half-square triangles into 6 rows. Press the seams open. Sew the rows together to form the strawberry. Press the seams open.
Sew the 2-1/2” x 6-1/2” background rectangles to each side of the strawberry. Press towards the white border. Sew the 2-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangles to the top and bottom. Press towards the border.
Finish the Quilt
Layer the strawberry, batting and backing fabric. Quilt a grid of lines 1” apart. Sew the binding strip to the 2-1/4” wide black & white strip on the diagonal. Create your binding and sew it to the quilt in your favorite method. Voila!
This little strawberry is going to look great next to our Mini Patchwork Pineapple, Mini Patchwork Orange, Mini Patchwork Apples and Mini Patchwork Pear quilts! If you make this or any other Sassafras Lane project, we would love to see it! Post them to our Facebook Group or use our #sassafraslane hashtag on Instagram!

So excited to see this new addition to the Mini Patchwork Fruit Collection. Have to check my stash for pretty pinks to make this strawberry. May require a trip to my local quilt shop! Thanks.
