Free Patchwork Pineapple Mini Quilt Pattern

Over a year ago, we made a mini pineapple quilt based on a pillow we saw on Instagram and shared the pattern with Dear Stella Fabrics. We reduced the size of the pieces and made a mini quilt that finishes 8-1/2" x 11-1/2". Here is a step-by-step tutorial to make one of your very own!

Sewing Instructions

To make the half-square triangles: 1. Layer a 1-7/8” white square and yellow square right sides together. 2. Draw a line down the center. 3. Using a 1/4” seam, sew on both sides of the square. 4. Cut along the drawn line. 5. Press the seams open.

Make 4 total white/yellow half square triangles, 4 total white/green half-square triangles and 2 total green/green half-square triangles.

Sew the squares and half-square triangles into 7 rows of 4 squares. Press the seams open. Sew the rows together to form the pineapple. Press the seams open.

Sew the 2-1/2” x 7-1/2” rectangles to each side of the pineapple. Press towards the white border. Sew the 2-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangles to the top and bottom. Press towards the border.

Finish the Quilt

Layer the pineapple, batting and backing fabric. Quilt straight vertical lines approximately 1/2” apart. Sew the binding strip to the 2-1/4” wide yellow strip on the diagonal. Create your binding and sew it to the quilt in your favorite method. Voila!

This is the cutest Mini-quilt I think I’ve ever seen. Or at least in the top 5. Wish there was a way to print it out in PDF cause my sewing machine is across the room from my desktop pc.

for PDF, click the highlighted link to Stella fabrics — it’s available on that website.
Great pattern! I’ll be making it into a table runner, with the pineapples running in alternating
directions so pretty from both sides!

I want to make a lap quilt or twin be quilt with this pattern. I’m not sure how much fabric I’ll need to complete something like that. I would appreciate your suggestions and ideas. Thanks, JoLene

As an Aussie, living in Utah, I love, love, love this mini quilt. It reminds me of home and the wonderful pineapples that I always took for granted growing up in the lucky country. Thank you for sharing.

Very nice, found this on a link via Pat Sloan’s larger quilt with an amazing quilted pattern that makes it pop. Anyway… I love the yellow scraps and such but now I need one in this style but for a lemon or two.

I love making small quilts to practice my half square triangles. I am a beginner so I don’t want to try hst on a large quilt until I get better at it. Thank you for sharing this pattern
