Baby (quilt) Fever - Part 1
As quilters, we know the best gift you can give an expecting family or newborn baby is a quilt. Maybe it is a family thing, but every baby in our circle gets a quilt. And this year, our circle is growing! 2023 seems to be the year of babies. We kicked off the year by having a baby quilt sewing palooza! Here is a little recap of a few that have been gifted (more coming in the next few months).
Our go-to baby quilt patterns to make are our large scale animal appliqués - Zoey’s Zoo, Sammy’s Safari, Finley’s Farm and Danny’s Dinos. These make great baby quilt gifts because they are super quick to sew (large pieces go together quickly), you can add the baby’s name (kid’s love having their name on things!) and they are super cute critters that you can match to their favorite animal or nursery theme.
Ava Ray’s Pink Penguin Quilt
Ava’s sweet quilt features a little pink penguin bordered by a yellow churndash and fun black and white animal print. This penguin pattern can be found in our Zoey’s Zoo pattern along with 3 other animals. Using the alphabet included in the pattern, Kristy added Ava’s name to the top and bottom scrappy pink borders in coordinating yellow fabric. Ava’s nickname is Avocado, so Kristy made a custom avocado label and gifted a stuffed avocado along with the quilt!
Jace Patrick’s Soft Elephant Quilt
Jace’s quilt was made to match his nursery! Kristy found an adorable soft animal print in our stash and paired it with a grey/green border and grey elephant. This elephant pattern can be found in our Sammy’s Safari pattern along with 3 other animals. Kristy made the entire elephant appliqué with minky fabric, so Jace will get some fun textures to feel when he uses it! Kristy finished the quilt with one our favorite ways to make a quilt label - right in the corner!
Yazmin Rose’s Bright Lion Quilt
Yazmin’s quilt features the adorable sheepish lion from our Zoey’s Zoo pattern. Kristy made this lion with a gold face, orange scraps for the mane and a coral body. We had the most adorable lion fabric, we used as the border and made the scrappy top and bottom borders with assorted orange and coral fabrics. Also, sometimes little mixups happen, but this is a good example of how they can turn into something beautiful! Kristy noticed she misspelled Yazmin after the quilt had been quilted and bound. Nothing a perfectly placed butterfly cannot fix!
Axel Cruz’s Fun Fox Quilt
These next two quilts Alayna (with assistance from Kristy) made for a coworker who had twins! Axel’s quilt features the most adorable little fox. She used one of my favorite fox and raccoon fabrics as the border and pulled coordinating fabrics from this print. She used orange scraps for the top and bottom borders and appliquéd Axel’s name in two blue fabrics. This fox pattern can be found in our Zoey’s Zoo pattern along with 3 other animals.
Austin Mateo’s Fuzzy Elephant Quilt
The second twin, Austin’s, quilt features the elephant from our Sammy’s Safari pattern. Alayna found a fun animal print in our stash for the border and pulled coordinating fabrics to be the scrappy borders, churndash and background. Like Jace’s elephant, Alayna used some minky fabrics on the elephants ear! I love the scrappy green top and bottom borders with the deep blue appliquéd name on this quilt!
