Mini Mondays - Mini Canyon Boulevard

How Mini Is This Mini?
We took the our Grande size of our original Canyon Boulevard pattern and downsized it to make a mini quilt that finishes 12.5" x 16.5" with the points. If you choose to forego the zigzagged binding, your quilt will be an inch shorter.
Choosing Fabric
The Mini Canyon Boulevard pattern calls for 8 focus fabrics, a background and binding. Of course, you can always use more fabric to create a scrap busting project or fewer fabrics to achieve a certain look! You can pick a color scheme to highlight your favorite color, a fabric line you want to feature or create a rainbow with gradating scraps. Light and dark backgrounds achieve completely different looks in this design. Lay a few of your fabrics out on a couple different background choices to get an idea of how they will play together.
Techniques & Skills
This mini is a pretty simple one! The only tricky or challenging part is the bias binding for the optional zigzagged binding. Other than that, it is very simple patchwork. We do recommend starching your fabrics, just to keep those bias edges from stretching out while sewing.
Inspiration Gallery
We have made a couple Mini Canyon Boulevard quilts. They are scattered between homes these days, but I hunted down a few to take photos of! Two of these feature fabric lines and the other is a gradation of some beautiful purple fabrics.
This quilt ended up on the cover of our pattern. It features a bright fabric line from Moda full of orange, yellow and aqua prints.
This quilt features a forest themed fabric line from Dear Stella and had a big buddy quilt to go along with it! It is fun to see mini and full-size quilts next to one another made with the same fabrics.
This last quilt is a fun purple gradation. We chose 8 different purple prints, paired them with a white background and voila!
