Introducing Damsel Drive
Next up in our Fall 2021 Pattern Launch is our new curvy DAMSEL DRIVE quilt pattern. We named this pattern after one of our favorite wineries - not the first time we’ve named a pattern after a winery (eh hem, Darby Road) and probably won’t be the last. This is a unique curve pattern that features half-circles and endless design options.
Damsel Drive Includes
- Three sizes - Tall Size 51in x 63in, Grande Size 61in x 75in and Venti Size 81in x 82in.
- Cutting instructions for both fat-quarters and layer cakes.
- Full-size templates for quarter circles and half circles.
Behind the Scenes
We photographed our two Damsel Drive quilts in our backyard using our painted doors… so naturally we snapped a few photos with our cute furry friends. We also encountered some strong sun (a real surprise here in Seattle during the Fall), so here is a little snap of us with the doors under the lip of the shed to block the sun.
The Cover Quilt
Believe it or not, this quilt started with the background. We have had this Heather Ross frog print for a while and it has been calling to us from the shelf! Because Damsel Drive has a lot of background, we decided it would be the perfect time to use it. We then chose 4 fabrics ranging from light to dark, in 6 color-ways for the blocks. Added in two accents for the centers and voila!
The quilting on this one is spectacular! Kristy really worked her longarm magic. She quilted overlapping circles in the arch shapes and filled in the overlap areas with serpentine lines. In the centers, Kristy did some fun ruler work and created some stars. The background was filled in with an overall concentric swirl design.
The Pura Vida Quilt
If you memorized the Pura Vida lookbook, you may have noticed that this design has had a little facelift, but we love it now! For this version of Damsel Drive, we used all the colorful prints in the blocks, the dark prints for a scrappy background and a white and grey print for the accents. We arranged the fabrics in color order in the blocks and across the quilt.
The quilting on this one is another ode to Kristy’s talent as a longarm quilter. Each block center is quilted with concentric circles that really draw your eye in. She quilted each vertical color row with a different fill and the background with an overall swirl that blends perfectly into the background.
Our friend Juli is making another version of Damsel Drive and we can’t wait to show it to you!
