Arcadia Avenue QAL Final Reveal - Take 3

I can't believe it has been months since Take 1 and Take 2 of these Arcadia Avenue quilts! I completely fail! Better late than never? Here is my low volume version! I love, love, love how this one turned out! It stretched my comfort zone and I couldn't be happier with the results.

Low Volume Arcadia Avenue

I chose to fill the background in with assorted low volume prints. There isn't quite as much contrast between the blocks and backgrounds like the other quilts, but I like how the eye focuses on the pops of colors that dance around the hexagons.

Some of favorite blocks in this quilts (and it was pretty hard to choose!) are Fly Away and Film Strips. I love the fussy-cut details in each block. I mean, little ballerinas twirling around... who wouldn't love that!

My little creative twist on the background was mostly out of necessity! I had a bunch of leftover low volume pieces, but most were not large enough to cut the triangles out. So, I divided the large triangles along the sides, top and bottom into smaller equilateral triangles to form the size needed. It gives the quilt a scrappier look along the sides and I was able to use all the fun pieces I had!

Low Volume Arcadia Avenue

My Sass partner, mom and personal long arm quilter =], Kristy, quilted this Arcadia Avenue with a 1.25" grid and wool batting. I wanted something simple and slightly puffy for future snuggling!

We used an Ikea duvet cover for the backing of this quilt. It is a fun low-ish volume fabric with the same grey color I used as an accent and little pops of color. I used the cut-offs from the backing to make the binding and love how it looks!

I absolutely love this low volume quilt. It is so soft and comforting and the background is quite attractive. I’ve purchased the background and will get mine put together in 2016. Want it as a graduation gift for my granddaughter in 2017. But I want it done in plenty of time!!!

I’ve been a quilter for some 50 year but in the last 12 months have lost all enthusiasm and energy for it and many of the quilts that I still look at frankly make me want to run a mile. But tonight I’ve just seen something that makes me think “May be”. I love it and will think carefully about it. I have an enormous stash that fills me with guilt but this might just be the moment. Thank you.
