Euclid Avenue in Houndstooth & Friends
One of the quilts we had hanging in the Michael Miller Fabrics booth was this fun Euclid Avenue. Our good friend and pattern tester, Juli Kieny made and quilted this version and it turned out great! This quilt features Houndstooth & Friends in the Lagoon color story and finished 56" x 72".
Houndstooth & Friends is full of random and awesome prints such as raccoons, trucks and argyle. And of course there are lots different sizes and colors of houndstooth prints. We paired a black/teal houndstooth with a teal truck print, a lime/teal houndstooth with a lime argyle print, the racoon print with a large multicolored houndstooth, and a grey/white houndstooth with a grey/black houndstooth. Keeping the colors grouped together gives this busy quilt a planned and organized feeling.
Juli decided to do some “simple” quilting on this quilt. Her simple is not so simple! She quilted straight horizontal lines across the grey houndstooths and the large prints. In the greens and teals, Juli echoed the blocks. The slight change of the direction in quilting gives the quilt a great crinkle texture.
Juli made a solid white label using our Easy Quilt Label tutorial. You can also see a little peak of the backing in this photo. We chose a color coordinating Guitar Pick print. It is matches the front perfectly!
Juli bound the quilt using the teal/black small houndstooth print. It was a perfect choice because it doesn't completely blend and it isn't distracting. She machine sewed the binding onto the front, glued it to the back and then finished it by machine.
